Tupahue Swimming pool ("Sentinel" in Quechua language)
The swimming pool Tupahue designed by the architect Carlos Martner was inaugurated in 1966 and occupies an extension of 4 thousand m2 in the nor-west hillside of the San Cristóbal hill in a place that was a quarry before. In its construction, which begins in 1960, a mural of stone designed and constructed by the muralists Maria Martner (Chilean) and Juan O`Gorman (Mexican) calls the attention of the visitor. In the work with Chilean and Mexican motivations there were used stones of colors of the same hill. The swimming pool of 82 meters of length for 25 of width is outlined for its irregular design, its great vegetation and environment, an artificial waterfall and a great sight of the city.
To accede to this swimming pool, it is possible to do it from the Cable Car San Cristóbal (Tupahue station), or by Minibus from Pio Nono access. |

Antilén Swimming pool (" That the Sun exists” in Mapudungun)
The Antilén swimming pool, also designed by Carlos Martner, was inaugurated on December 28, 1976. It is located in the peak of the Chacarillas hill at 800 meters over the level of the sea, which allows visitors to have a panoramic sight of 360º degrees of the city.
In its construction highlights big walls of canted stone that produce long flat surfaces. The swimming pool of irregular lines measures 92 meters of length per 25 meters and in it terraces of sunlight has the aptitude to attend more than 1.500 people simultaneously.
Originally a reserve existed in this place, without edges and an area with great slope. For its landscape design big surfaces of sunlight should be constructed, with containment walls and much fulfill. The idea of constructing this swimming pool arose after a students' trip from the University of Chile to Machu Pichu, whose teacher was Mr. Carlos Martner, this explains the constructive style and architectural influence.
