Urbans Parks

From 1992 the MINVU develops the Program of Urban Parks, which creates public spaces at national and regional level. Passed 16 years of experience, it has visualized that the construction of a park like public space, corresponds to a social process that implies more than its construction, because it must be developed within a continuity frame, where the project is reviewed periodically, assuring its quality and success in favor of the community.

Nevertheless, the different municipalities or the same MINVU could not support the maintenance of these green areas since it had been anticipated. It was decided then, by means of agreement ad-honorum, to give to the Metropolitan Park of Santiago the administration and management of them, reaching at the moment 13 parks, with a surface of 97.5 hectares, located mainly in the peripheral communes of the Metropolitan Region, who have a greater deficit of green areas and relaxation, as well as overcrowding and social risk. This work of maintenance is generated through projects of "Conservation and Security of Urban Parks", which consist of the execution of workings like: cleanliness, irrigation, replacement and manage of vegetal species, conservation of urban furniture and equipment, phito sanitary control, control of weeds, fertilization and security among others.
