The Parque Metropolitano de Santiago is the urban park inside the biggest city of Chile and one of the biggest of the world. It is public service that depends on the Ministry of Housing and Urbanism and it is formed by the San Cristóbal hill, Tupahue zone, Chacarillas Hill, Los Gemelos Hills, Los Andes zone, La Pirámide zone and Forest Santiago zone, with an extention of 722 hectares approximately. The park is located in four communes: Providencia, Recoleta, Huechuraba, and Vitacura.
Besides the maintenance and development of this great green area, the Metropolitan Park is entrusted of administering other 13 big parks inside the city (Urban Park Programs) and two big green areas as the Parque Metropolitano Sur Cerros de Chena (South Metropolitan Park Chena Hills) (Commune of San Bernardo) and the Parque natural Cerros de Renca (Nature Park Renca Hills) (Commune of Quilicura). Inside the main aims of the Direction, it is to deliver environmental knowledge to all visitors, in order to develop an increasing environmental conscience that helps in the future to have a better quality of life. The Metropolitan Park transforms this way in the great classroom of environmental education, outdoors. |
