Enviromental Education Center SANTIAGO FOREST
The Environmental Education Center of Santiago Forest is an initiative of the Metropolitan Park of Santiago, dependent of the public service of the Ministry of Housing and Urbanism.

The Environmental Education Center of Santiago Forest is the first urban center of this type in the country that proposes to make activities of non formal outdoor environmental education, related to the formation of ethical values and environmental conscience, through the reforestation with native species, the restoration of the degraded ecosystems and the conservation of the nature, contributing to the sustainable development of our country. This educative center, began to be developed in 1999, is counted with the decided support of the Ministry of Housing and Urbanism and private sector companies.

It is a property of 180 hectares formed by ravines of the southwestern sector of cord Manquehue, El Carbón and San Cristóbal hills. It is in the North end of the Metropolitan Park (communes of Huechuraba and Vitacura). The development of this didactic park in an appropriate place, easily accessible and near the center of the capital, involves the commitment to generate the spaces and necessary tools to favor the respect by the nature, the recognition and the conservation of the biodiversity, the scientific, cultural and recreation development. Here it is tried to create conscience that the life of the country must be compatible with the preservation and conservation of the Natural Environment.
 
Santiago Forest has a great consolidated infrastructure as: amphitheatre, teacher’s refuge, educative breeding house, interpretative footpaths, nursery area, exhibition of Chilean fauna, stations of recycling and compost, artificial lagoons "Model Aquatic Ecosystem Humedal", served water processing plant (Bio filter), clean and sustainable production of beehives and 60 hectares of reforestation with native flora.
